Reading a digital book is not the same as reading a printed one, but with the right application, the experience can be more comfortable. Calibre enables you to manage and read your e-books without any effort. The application provides numerous sorting and filtering features, a rich reading environment, the means to get more books from the Internet and much more. It was designed from the ground up to be a flexible and easy to use book reading tool, so you won't encounter any kind of difficulties while organizing your digital library.

Another feature that is definitely worth mentioning is Calibre's support for numerous e-book formats. You can import books in PDF, EPUB, MOBI, HTMLZ, TXT, RTF and many other formats. Loaded books are listed in the central region of the user interface and you can filter them by author, language, series, publisher, format and by other criteria, which can be selected on the left side of the window. Tags can be used as filters as well and you can find them in the same area, among the other filters. Additionally, the application allows you to sort your books by the same criteria, search for specific items and manage authors, publishers and other details.

A series of options are available on a toolbar, which enable you to convert books, look for new books on the Internet, save existing ones to the disk or perform a few maintenance tasks, like backing up the library or checking it for inconsistencies. When it comes to looking for new books, the application is capable of searching on numerous websites, like Amazon, Google Books, Ebookpoint and others. The included conversion tool can be used on single books, but you can also perform batch conversion operations. It detects the input formats automatically and it allows you to choose from a wide variety of output formats. It is also possible to change the look and feel of the books and to make many other changes, before starting the conversion process.

The application comes with its own e-book reader, which is loaded automatically when you open a listed book. Despite its simple appearance, the reader has many useful features to offer. Besides changing font settings or other visual aspects, you can also navigate between pages much easier, thanks to the built-in table of contents feature, which enables you to jump to a specific chapter at any time, without scrolling through any pages. It is also possible to bookmark pages and to look up selected words on Google or in a dictionary.

Pros

The application is compatible with numerous e-book formats. Imported books can be filtered and sorted by various criteria. Also, Calibre comes with conversion capabilities, a search function for new books and many other useful features.

Cons

You can't load PDF files in the built-in e-book reader. With Calibre's straightforward and efficient functionality, digital books can be organized as fast and easy as possible, with only a few clicks.
